Developed with Born and directed by Shea Bennett, UCAN @ UC marks a shift in how the University of Canberra presents itself. It moves away from traditional university tropes and towards something more open, accessible and grounded in real experience. To bring that to life, we leaned into a documentary-style approach, keeping the focus firmly on people and their stories. Rather than overproducing moments, the aim was to capture something honest and observed. It’s a fly-on-the-wall perspective, but one that still carries energy and momentum. We moved across a wide range of locations, from early mornings through to late nights, capturing different slices of student life. Some moments were built from scratch, including a working construction setup brought together on location, with a bit of hands-on help behind the scenes. Small additions like car-mounted shots added movement and variation, without losing the grounded tone. Editing, sound design and mix, along with light VFX work was handled completely in-house, with colour-grade done by the amazing Marcus Friedlander. The campaign delivered three hero films, supported by 15-second character edits, six-second cutdowns, and a full suite of reframed assets across multiple aspect ratios, built to work across TV, web and social.
